Using the Windows Explorer, Page 3On page 1, we learned how to start the program, what it's purpose is and how to display it in different ways. On page 2, we learned how to select and display items in the workspace. Now we will learn ways to use the program. Lets first create a new folder. Select the C drive in the left pane as shown in both figures on page 2. Then click the file menu and select New, Folder. It looks like this:
Again your list will not look like mine, but the Folder option will be. Next, when you click the Folder, you will see a new folder displayed in the right pane with the name New Folder highlighted. Do not click the mouse. Just type a name for the folder. If you do not have a "My Downloads" folder, type it. If you already have one, type My Stuff or some other title for storing files.
You can't see it in this static image, but there should be a visible blink to the right of the word Folder indicating a rename function. Once you have the folder created and named, you are ready to put files in it. You can create documents in a program and save them directly in the new folder or you can take existing files and move them to this folder. To move files into the new folder, find the file in the right pane and select it (highlight it). Then you want to mark the file for Cut using the menu, icon or keyboard. Click here to learn about Cut, Copy and Paste if you are not familiar with it. I have already created many subfolders to the My Documents folder. Your needs will differ just as the organization differs in different offices. Here is what my sub folders look like:
